An exceptional metal-backed brooch of excellent quality, with two layers of highly carved Bakelite and a coloring design that is just fantastic! It is a thermoset plastic, although it cannot be tested to determine whether the material is Bakelite (aka Catalin) or galalith, without causing possible damage.
