EAPG Rope Bands / Argent Footed Salt Shaker, US Glass ca 1891
EAPG Rope Bands / Argent Footed Salt Shaker, US Glass ca 1891
Click for large / detail photos
A simple pattern that is explained by one of its names, 'Clear Panels with Cord Band'. The cord bands run top and bottom of the glass body, which also has four fairly thick, raised vertical ribs, evenly spaced around. This shaker is somewhat scarce, as most reference books fail to mention its inclusion in the Rope Bands pattern. (ref: McCain book, pg 440; Peterson 1-K bk, pg 170-P)
Made as early as the 1880's by Bryce Bros, this 3-inch tall shaker may be one of their products; the clear glass panels have waviness and a 'straw mark' that later manufacture by US Glass seldom revealed. A pinhead-sized, ultra-shallow ding on the edge of the foot is the only damage noted (using magnification). The metal lid has the small star-shaped openings, retains no original plating and has a couple of flat spot dents.
