EAPG Blown Clear Glass Cube Shaped Salt Shaker
EAPG Blown Clear Glass Cube Shaped Salt Shaker
Click for large / detail photos
A simple design, a cube shape with tapered shoulders - but - it hides a beauty within its simplicity! The glass has such crystal-clear clarity that newsprint can be easily read when viewed through TWO sides. This is actually very significant, due to the varying thickness of the glass walls of the shaker.
The varying thickness is a result of the blown-in-mold process that created the 2-¾ inch tall shaker. The variation is to such a degree that, when considering the glass' clarity, an approximation of its age to be 1870-1895 is within reason. The rim has the usual roughness consistent with removal from the blow-tube and followed with a grind and light polish.
One mold line at the top, on a shoulder, shows some unevenness to the glass flow - tiny dimples/marks. The corners of the sides have a few very tiny dings that aren't visible without magnification, but can be felt with a fingernail. The metal lid is heavily worn, with just the base metal showing, along with many year's worth of corrosion.
