EAPG / Art Glass, Tulip Salt Shaker, Fostoria #1013, ca. 1898
EAPG / Art Glass, Tulip Salt Shaker, Fostoria #1013, ca. 1898

A fantastic piece of early art glass from the Fostoria Glass Co - a large shaker with the blown shape of a tulip bud. Raised petals encircle the glass body, with alternating petals having a pink fired-on coloring. A light green fired-on wash above the petals adds just the right amount of color to suggest a tulip blossom. Topped off with what should be the original lid, this shaker is a must-have for any collection! (ref: Lechner book II, pg 90)
The mold blown shaker measures 2-¾ inches tall to the rim - including the lid, total height is 3-¾ inches tall. Made of very thick glass, the shaker has substantial weight and truly represents the art of antique opalware production. A few 'straw marks' are visible on one large petal and the base's very bottom, but no damage is noted. The lid also shows no damage, just a few spots of tarnish and a very nice patina.
